RealNews Vernallis Named to Distinguished Service Chapter Pittsburgh, PA, September 15, 2008 — Mark Vernallis, President & CEO of PeriOptimum, Inc. was named to Delta Tau Delta Fraternity’s Distinguished Service Chapter during the fraternity’s 150th anniversary celebration held in Pittsburgh on August 16, 2008. Mr. Vernallis attended the University of Pittsburgh and was a member of the Class of 1975. While there he served as president of the Gamma Sigma chapter of Delta Tau Delta. Membership in the Distinguished Service Chapter is the highest honor the Fraternity bestows. Since it was established in 1930, fewer than 400 Delts have been cited to membership and of those, fewer than 100 are currently living. The citation may only be given to living members based upon lifetime service and loyalty. The most senior citation was given to Edward Curtis, Ohio Wesleyan, class of 1870. Some other notable Distinguished Service Chapter members include Supreme Court Justice Tom C. Clark, real estate developer John Galbraith and baseball’s Branch Rickey. Delta Tau Delta was founded at Bethany College, Virginia in 1858. Opening its doors in 1840, Bethany College was one of the finest colleges in the nation. Known for attracting scholars and the best students from the North and South before the Civil War, Bethany College remains West Virginia’s oldest degree-granting institution.
