Legislation
Requires the health commissioner, in consultation with health care providers or their representatives, to establish a program to screen newborn infants for hearing problems by April 1, 2000. Program to include the most cost-effective methods for detecting hearing problems as early as possible, follow-up screening, and reimbursement to health care providers for services under the program. Each institution caring for newborn infants required to administer such a program or refer the patient for this service after discharge.
