Legislation
Requires babies born in a hospital after January 1, 1998, to be evaluated for a potential hearing impairment (sic). Physician attending the birth responsible for confirmatory testing referral and reasonable efforts to notify and educate the parents. Requires the State Department of Health to track all infants who do not pass the newborn screening test, to establish an advisory committee, and to assure the best possible outcome for infants and toddlers identified through the program. Original legislation amended by H.B. 1022, passed and signed into law in 2001. Requires reporting of all hearing screenings and follow-up diagnostic hearing evaluations on infants and toddlers to the state IDEA Part C Coordinator. Specifies the type of appointees to the advisory committee.
