Legislation
Beginning November 1, 2000, hospitals required to provide parents of newborns with information on hearing screening and follow-up care, including availability, Similar information required by November 1, 2002 for parents of children born outside hospitals. The Department of Human Services, in consultation with a Newborn Hearing Screening Advisory Board that includes an audiologist, a speech-language pathologist, parents, and persons who are culturally deaf or hard of hearing, to develop guidelines for screening and follow-up care that include diagnostic audiologic assessment, counseling, and parent education. Data reports to this advisory board required beginning January 1, 2003.
