Legislation
As of July 1, 1999, requires a physiologic hearing screening for every infant at the earliest feasible time unless parent objects because of religious beliefs. Advice to the State Department of Health on appropriate tests, reporting procedures, tracking, follow-up diagnosis and treatment, and family counseling and support to be provided by the Newborn Hearing Screening and Intervention Advisory Board. Maternity health benefits mandated to cover cost of the screening. Hospitals without needed equipment for screening to implement a program as soon as equipment is received, but no later than July 1, 2000.
