Legislation
Establishes a July 1, 2001, goal of screening at least 95% of all infants born in hospitals. Rules and regulations to be developed by the Board of Human Resources with recommendations from an Advisory Committee. Rules and regulations to include appropriate objective and physiologically-based methods for screening, guidelines for reporting, and a means for assuring referral for appropriate follow-up services. Licensed audiologists to perform screening (exception must be consistent with Georgia licensure law for audiologists).

Children 1st
Children 1st is a system designed to screen all children and families at the time of birth, identify families needing support and services to help with the child's health and development up to age three, assist families in linking these children to a primary health care provider, and generate data necessary for planning and program development. Children are linked with providers in the private sector to the greatest extent possible to encourage public/private partnerships. Universal Newborn Hearing Screening
The mission of Universal Newborn Hearing Screening is to develop and sustain a comprehensive coordinated system for Universal Newborn Hearing Screening and Intervention (UNHSI) in Georgia in which hospitals, primary health care providers, and Public Health work together to screen infants and newborns for hearing loss and share essential information about Universal Newborn Hearing Screening with parents, physicians, audiologists, and the general public.
